Day 29 of Australia Adventure Melbourne Australia – May 15th 2010
Get up this morning at pack my bag for the last time. My contiki roommates are totally sound asleep and so I leave the room without disturbing them. I check out of the Holiday Inn and take a taxi to the Sydney domestic airport as I am flying to Melbourne today.
I am flying with the airline of Jetstar again as it was the best price I could find to get to Melbourne. I have a bk from Subway this morning at the airport for its conveniences but have a egg Subway this morning, quite filling. Finally it is time to board the plane and fly to Melbourne. It is just an hour flight to get to Melbourne and I have a great seat, at the very front, so I am first to get off the plane.
From what I see, the weather seems to look good for Melbourne today. I make my way to get my luggage. While I am waiting I go grab some chips from the vending machine, have a big desire for something salty at this time.
I get my bags and even though I have research the budget way to get into the city, I still take a taxi as I want to spoil myself. It ends up being a very pricey taxi ride at almost 60 bucks, ouch!!!
I arrive at the hotel I am staying at, Hotel Enterprize. I check in to this older hotel and get my room which is just past the court yard, not a bad room and its all for me, no sharing anymore. I then clean up and plan out the rest of my day. I then as I am downtown Melbourne choose a direction and wander. I am finding Melbourne to be an amazing city with many historic buildings everywhere.
I make it past one famous building the train station, a very stunning building. I walk along St Kilda street and around the Yarra River which is totally amazing looking. I took so many photos, and saw many things. Seems Melbourne is avery outdoor friendly place with all the bike paths and lots of sports stadiums. These are some of the things I saw today, Federation Square, Parliament buildings, Victorian Art Centre, Southgay and Flinders Station.
As well I wander towards the Melbourne Cricket Ground where I am going to watch an Aussie Rules football game tomorrow. The stadium is very big from the outside as I walk around it. Many statues on the outside of past heros of Cricket and footyball, who I have no clue who they are. I go and have a hot dog from outside of the stadium and its amazingly good.
Then I make my way back towards the city. A game is just finishing and I get to see the people leave the game and walk all the pathways back to the city, quite neat actually to see.
I make me way up the Yarra River again and find a shopping mall and go in. I find a nice big food court with a huge selection of all types of foods. I choose some Chinese food today and its a huge serving for a good budget price, very good.
Then I continue to walk up the Yarra river to the end, many neat bridges to see and the skyline of Melbourne is one amazing site. I make it near the Convention Centre where I see an amazing ship on display outside, very neat. Then It has been a long day already, I make my way back to the hotel and call it a night as I want to start tomorrow very early. Did not get much sleep at all last night, but been an amazing trip.
Onto the next day of Melbourne, stay tuned.
