Day 30 and 31 of Australia Adventure Melbourne Australia – May 16th 2010
Morning in Melbourne
Today is another day in Melbourne, I make sure to get up early today and check more of Melbourne today. I have later in the afternoon the Australian Football Game to go to at the Melbourne Cricket Grounds.
I make my way down to the Victoria Harbour, not many people around as it is early Sunday morning. Harbour area is very nice and many shops are all in this area. Closed at this time as it is like 8am. People are setting up some open markets here for today in area. Lots of interesting and colourful buildings in the area. As well the Ethiad Stadium is on the waterfront, another stadium for Cricket and footyball is played here.
I make my way later on to the Yarra River and see it for the day time views, after crossing an amazing looking bridge. I walk down the Yarra river and stop for a post morning – afternoon meal at the same Asian food place as yesterday, still very good.
Then later I make my way and go explore the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne. Very amazing as it is huge and lots of water fountains here. I visit the Remembrance shrine of the Australian Navy and lots of good rainforest walks here as well, that profile the region.
Overall a very nice place and would love to explore more but I need to get to the Melbourne Cricket Grounds for the afternoon game. I arrive at the MCG and go in, and take my seats, which is in the lower reserve area. First time for going to a sport like this as this is going to very different for me.
Melbourne Cricket Grounds
MCG is a very big stadium to which it has seats for over 100 000 people. Todays game are with 2 teams, one called Richmond and the other is Hawthorne. There are many thousands of people at this game. I go and get a meat pie and a beer to enjoy the game. On getting the beer they have an odd system of concession. Here you have to line up once to order your beer and get it. Then you have to line up again to pay for it, a very length process, not really fond of it. All well, I make it back to my seat to watch the start of the game.
I wish I knew the rules of the game better to appreciate it, as it was like watching with a blindfold on. AFL is a very high scoring game and the athleticism is very amazing, beats NFL anytime.
People are cheering very loudly like going to any North American sports game, so different is always good.
I could go on with the game, but I figure the pictures tell the story better.
The team Richmond wins the game and everyone leaves the stadium. I then have some more time after the game to explore the Botanic Gardens again, before the sun goes down. It is an amazing experience and I truly enjoy it. check out all the photos I have to describe this better. Then I make my way back to the shopping mall and have some asian food at the same food court as earlier, but very good. Make my way to a Supermarket to pick up some snacks and then off to hotel and too bad. Reason as I have a early start tomorrow for I am doing a tour of the Great Ocean Road, more details and next day’s blog.
Great Ocean Road
Day 31 of Australia Adventure
– Melbourne., Australia – May 17th 2010
Get up very early this morning to take my tour. I go outside across the street at the Holiday and wait for the company Melbourne Best tours to come pick me up. Finally the small bus comes and I get on, take the seats at the back by the window. This is the Great Ocean Road tour and makes it to a place called the 12 Apostles. The bus picks up a few more people at a couple of other stops of up to 21 people on the bus, finally we are off.
The name of the tour guide is some guy named Ethiad. Today is avery good day.
We stop at town for a one hour coffee stop, I get some snacks from grocery store and bk and then walk down to the beach area and enjoy the view, very nice.
We then back onto the bus and make the way along the coastline which is amazingly great looking. So many great view of the ocean coast along the way. Only way to describe it all is in the photos. Very hilly area with lots of green trees everywhere and great beaches.
We make a stop at a station and get to see some interesting birds here, very colourful. As well there are many Koal bears wild in the trees, a very rare sight that is worth a million dollars.
We then make it back onto the bus and onto the next stop which is in the rainforest. Here we do a walk about in the rain forest and once again see many interesting plants and trees.
We then make it to a lunch stop to which I have some fish and chips, very good. I go for a walk around outside and there is a Llama farm here, very nice animals worth many photos.
As well a good selection of great birds to see.
Finally we take off to our final destination of the day. We make it to the 12 Apostles, which are like parts of small cliffs that have been erroded by the ocean. There are 12 of them, in many forms, including one called the London Bridge which was broken away just a few years ago.
The Apostles are truly the highlight of this day tour, to which I highly recommend you all to come and see it. Feel free to check out all my photos on that amazing day and enjoy.
Take care and if any questions ask me any time.
Afterwards we make it back to Melbourne after a 2 and half hour drive. Once back in Melbourne, I go for another walk about to enjoy this city one more time.
Then it is off to bed as early morning flight back to Sydney.
This comes to the end of my travelogue of my trip to Australia. I hope you all enjoyed it. I did have one more night afterwards after flying back to Sydney, but it was put on the burner as weather was bad in Sydney, I did stay at a night hotel that final night by the airport. I stay over night in Sydney and just reflect on the whole trip. From the next morning I board my Air Canada Flight back to Canada and the long 24 hour journey back to Thunder Bay.
Thank you all for enjoying my trips and feel free to email me on here. Or at firstname.lastname@example.org about my trips if you have any questions or anything about this all. As well I have facebook, just ask me for contacts for my facebook. See you all soon., Thanks
