Tanzania, The home land of the notorious Maasai tribe and the work of The Global Adventure Safaris

Arusha, Tanzania

Tanzania is home to some of the great wonders of the world including Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free standing Mountain in the World, the Ngorogoro creator, once part of the great Serengeti and the Rift Valley, the cradle of humanity. All these wonders are located within close distance to Arusha, the Safari capital of Tanzania.

Arusha is located in the North of Tanzania close to the boarder of Kenya. It holds a population of 281 608 (2012 consensus). Located on the foot hills of Mt Meru which creates a beautiful landscape view, Arusha provides a large diversity of activities and adventures. Having Arusha National park boarding the town and being the base point for the national parks in the Northern safari circuit such as Lake Manyara, the Serengeti, Tarangrie and Ngorogoro creator not to mention Mt Meru and Kilimanjaro national parks makes Arusha a truly wonderful place for holiday makers, travelers, and Volunteers.

With Tanzania allocating more its land to National Parks than any other country in the world, most located near Arusha, you are sure to find the animal and natural environments that you desire. Here you will find the big five including over 25 000 other animals and over 400 bird species, not forgetting that over 120 tribes exist in Tanzania many of them living in Arusha so making it a colorful and truly vibrant culture.

There is also the option of a range of cultural trips available. With the Maasai tribe inhabiting the land in and around Arusha it is most recommended to visit a Boma, a small family unit in which the Maasai live, and experience their unique way of living. Also available are the coffee plantation tours in which they’re riff in the area and the Tanzanite cultural experience, the opportunity to learn about and purchase a jewel stone a 1000 times rarer than diamond and only found in Tanzania. Other trips include water fall and forest hikes, cycle rides and canoeing safaris.

Arusha Town also boosts a large number and diversity of Hotels, lodges, backpackers and restaurants, providing beautiful, relaxing locations with great food and drink at very low costs.

The Maasai Tribe

The Maasai are amongst the most well known indigenous tribes known on this planet. They are one of the few tribes left that have kept their traditional ways of life. They are a unique tribe who are found to inhabit a large area from Southern Kenya down through the Maasai Mara and spread though Northern Tanzania down through the Maasai steppe. For many they live an idyllic and simplistic life style, living in close harmony with nature. They are a peaceful, kind and caring people with no destructive gene in them. This can be seen from the environment they live in, which has never been spoilt due to their sustainable living, with wildlife still abundant around them.

They have adapted to living in harsh conditions where for many months of the year there is little water. Their homes, tools and medicines are carefully and wisely extracted from the natural material that surrounds them. They feed off the live stock that they rear.

To live among the Maasai even just for a short time is a truly wonderful experience and if ever the chance was to arise then it is not to be missed.
